Skills to Offer:

I enjoy working with my hands and solving problems. I savor the accomplishment of finishing a well thought out project and even more so the enjoyment I bring to others with my work. I attended Technical classes in High School in both Construction Technology as well as Architectural Design. Through both of these classes, I not only obtained the technical knowledge to be able to operate programs such as AutoCAD, but also developed my insight and vision involving the evolution of a design/project from start to finish. I also obtained my 10hr OSHA card and took advantage of the available woodshop to dabble in finer work such as bird houses etc. After my final days in high school I pursued employment with a home improvement retailer and have grown my knowledge pertaining to materials and their applications. Along the way, I have been working on many pieces at home, mainly for my kids, including toy-boxes, tea tables and bedframes/ bunk-beds.

Description of Apprenticeship:

I am a hard working young father of 3. I am interested in immersing myself in the craft of woodworking. I yearn to pursue a career in a field that I can apply my creativity and technical skills. Being that I am a dedicated father, I find it difficult to find the time to continue my full time job as well as complete a college degree while still taking part in my family life. What I am looking for in an apprenticeship is the opportunity to learn from a mentor and grow my knowledge while also earning a decent living to support my family. My preferred area of interest is currently larger furniture such as bedframes, bookshelves, coffee tables, toy boxes etc, but would be more than willing to learn the skills to create a number of other items as well. I am willing and able to travel a fair distance, preferably in the Central Maine area. If the right opportunity were to present itself, a farther distance may not be a problem either. Thank you for taking the time to view my accomplishments and aspirations. If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact me via the email address provided. jlavoie244@gmail.com
