Skills to Offer:

My skills include learning a new task quickly and succeeding at it; willing to work hard and diligently to complete a task; observing and anticipating the needs of others; problem-solving; organization, memorizing instrumentation and I take pride in my work.
Professionally I was a certified surgical technologist for almost six years and in my personal life I enjoy cooking, knitting, cross-stitching, some sewing and want to learn crochet. I have a small amount of construction experience (self home improvements) and build a barstool out of cardboard and glue. I also enjoy photography, reading, writing and gardening.

Description of Apprenticeship:

I am a 29 year old female. I worked in retail for a couple of years, moved onto a local hospital working in the kitchen, mostly serving food trays to patients. I learned of an opportunity to become a surgical technologist and so spent the next year in school and working weekends. I was quite successful as a CST, but became bored and felt that the work didn't fulfill me. I decided in 2010 to attend school again and settled on Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont. I am studying Sustainable Design and Renewable Energy. I am currently in a Homesteader's Ecology course which has enlightened me to the fact that a formal education, or a degree rather, may not be necessary and with the cost of college I am leaning toward the decision not to return to school in the fall. I would rather learn skills from smaller specialty schools or from mentors. I would like to build my own small home, raise my own food (vegetables, fruits and livestock) and even produce some of my own goods, such as clothing, small furniture, etc, so as not to rely on corporations, industry and consumption.
What am I looking for in an apprenticeship? I do not know exactly. I want to learn from someone who is a good teacher and passionate about their work and their skills. I want to walk away from the experience with the knowledge that I have made my mentor proud and with confidence that I can go out on my own and use the skill taught to me and maybe someday be as good as my mentor or perhaps better. I want the apprenticeship to be a positive experience for both parties and I want to learn - not just the skill, but about myself and others, and the history and usefullness of the practice. Ultimately, I would want to be able to use the skill learned if not as a means of income, at least in a way to enhance my personal life
