Skills to Offer:

I Studied Metals and Jewelry Design as an undergraduate at RIT in Rochester, NY. There I learned all the basic fabrication skills. Soldering, basic stone setting, polishing, riveting and cold connecting, forging, die-forming, raising, sinking. I learned how to use a rolling mill, flexible shaft, band saw, jump shear, drill press, belt sander and disc sander. I learned about enameling techniques, resin casting, etching, electro-forming and plating, sand casting, and lost wax casting. I also learned how to do traditional jewelry renderings and sketch designs.

I also did a 3 month apprenticeship where I learned about running a jewelry business and working with customers. I was also able to practice my bench skills during the apprenticeship.

I've taken other useful courses at RIT such as Foundation courses in 3D design, 2D design, and drawing, Principles of Marketing, Personal Financial Management, Gallery Management, New Business Ventures, Crafts promotional Materials, Crafts Business Practice, Glassblowing and Flame working elective, and Woodworking elective.

Description of Apprenticeship:

I'm a senior student graduating from RIT in May 2014 with a BFA in Metals and Jewelry Design. I'm looking for a mentor who is willing to take me on with a salary, but is also willing to train me and help me develop my skills further. I don't mind doing production work, as long as it challenges me and there is some time for skills training. I hope to work in an environment that will challenge me. I'm enthusiastic about the work that I do, and I'm always optimistic even when I'm having a bad day. I'm looking for a mentor that enjoys metalworking as much as I do, and appreciates the traditional craft. I hope this mentor will be able to help me make connections within the jewelry and metal arts industry.

Eventually I want to have my own jewelry business, and while my coursework has prepared me for it, my experience is inadequate to start my business right after graduating. I can't really afford to go to graduate school, and I've found that I won't get what I need in a college environment. If there is a mentor out there who is looking for someone to train in technique and business that person is who I need.

Since I'm graduating, I'm looking for a place to settle down and work with a mentor. I'm willing to move to a town or city near them, so my location right now is not set. I live in Valatie, NY right now, but I will go anywhere when I find the right mentor.
